The origins of the Jamesport Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary can be traced back to Thursday night, September 12, 1950 at 8:10 PM, when a group of women gathered to establish their inaugural meeting. Under the guidance of Mrs. Margaret Locker, who served as temporary chairman, and with the assistance of Mrs. Edna Vail, the Ladies Auxiliary was formally established. Mrs. Locker was nominated and promptly assumed the role of President during the meeting. Nominations were also made for the positions of Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Mrs. Celia Mitchell accepted the nomination for Vice President, Mrs. Helen Hanko assumed the role of Secretary, and Mrs. Kay Franzik accepted the position of Treasurer. Furthermore, the President appointed members to various committees and proposed the implementation of monthly dues and refreshments during meetings.
Historical records indicate that the primary objective of the Ladies Auxiliary, as stated in Article 1, Section 2 of the Ladies Auxiliary By-Laws of 1950, is "to provide assistance and support to the Jamesport–South Jamesport Fire Department whenever required." These dedicated women, who are wives, mothers, and sisters of the firefighters serving in the Jamesport–South Jamesport Fire Department, generously offer their time to serve those who protect and safeguard our community.
Moving ahead to the present day, the remarkable women of the Jamesport Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary remain steadfast in their commitment to supporting firefighters and providing assistance whenever necessary. In addition, these admirable individuals actively foster social camaraderie among their members and the wider Jamesport Fire Department community. For over 70 years, these extraordinary women have played a pivotal role in assisting the Jamesport Fire Department through a variety of endeavors.
