It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the Line of Duty Death of Lieutenant Leonard Llewellyn, a dedicated member of the Mattituck Fire Department. Lieutenant Llewellyn passed away on August 25, 2023, while fighting injuries sustained while responding to the firehouse for an alarm.

Lieutenant Leonard Llewellyn served the community with unwavering dedication for an incredible 53 years. He held the rank of Lieutenant in the Fire Police and was an esteemed member of our department. In addition, he selflessly contributed to the community as a board member of the North Fork Parade Association.

On the day of the incident, while responding to the firehouse to answer multiple alarms, Lieutenant Llewellyn was tragically struck by a motorist, who remained on the scene. Members of the Mattituck Fire Department promptly provided him with medical care, but despite their efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Lieutenant Leonard Llewellyn leaves behind his family, who are mourning his loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.

The Jamesport Fire Department extends its deepest sympathy to the Mattituck Fire Department and the entire firefighting community as we come together to grieve the loss of Lieutenant Leonard Llewellyn. His dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to the safety of our community will forever be remembered.
